Welcome back to Seller Spotlight! I feature creators who put their heart and soul into handcrafting unique art. I just want to g ive them the spotlight they deserve. In a world of mass-produced things, I want to make sure artists who make a living doing what they love are getting the credit they deserve.

This week, I’m so excited to spotlight Margo Hays!

She is the creative genius behind swappable art. You might've seen her taking over social media with her canvas reveals, where she explains the reason behind the black dots on the back of her paintings—revealing they’re magnets and showing the unique swappability of her pieces. This immediately intrigued me, and I knew I'd have to do a spotlight for her soon!

A HAPPY ACCIDENT

Margo was creating a painting for her sister, and she wanted her to be able to switch things out based on her mood. This marked the beginning of her most notable feature: interactive art.

MARGO HAYS, THE HUMAN

She is currently based in Atlanta. When she’s not creating, she works as an art supervisor in advertising. And it’s no wonder she chose to keep her own name for her art brand—because it’s seriously so cool, I just had to mention that.

INTERACTIVE WORLD

Not only is her art interactive, but her website is too! It makes my inner child so happy. The effort she’s put into creating the vibe for her art is so commendable—it really sets the scene. You’ve got to check it out for yourself! Click here or preview below.

MARGO'S PHILOSPHY

In a video she uploaded showcasing her pieces, she explains her desire for sharing her work.

"My goal with these paintings was to make people really happy when they look at it and to elicit some sort of emotional response. And also to kind of break the rule of don't touch the art. This is kind of bringing in the user into the art so you can play around with the art itself and kind of like engage your own creativity when interacting with the art."

I absolutely love that she has this desire for this almost breaking-out-of-the-matrix way of thinking. I love that it is an infinite collaboration between artist and observer, like she is gifting us the opportunity to be creative along with her. It’s delightfully whimsical and playful. No wonder I chose it for this week's spotlight!

Cenah's Favorites from Margo

I am saying again... this one brings me back to childhood. It TOTALLY reminds me of the kids movie, Hotel For Dogs, that came out in 2009 (I was 9 years old). The word "play" feels like this painting's entire essence.

This one brings me instant nostalgia, omg! This Barbie-inspired piece brings back memories of playing Barbie dress-up games online as a kid, as well as wooden dress-up dolls I used to play with that had magnetic clothes you could swap out. All in all, this is definitely eliciting an emotional response!! Thanks Margo.

It really should be no surprise at all that this would be my favorite one. It summons feelings of imagination, playfulness, and the carefree spirit of childhood. I need it ASAP!
